EDATEC ED-IPC1220: A Raspberry Pi industrial controller for DIN rails

We unbox EDATEC’s compact industrial computer, establish Ethernet and Wi-Fi access, verify RS485 communication, and measure the timing behavior of its digital inputs and outputs.

The ED-IPC1220 and its removable field-wiring terminals on our bench.

The ED-IPC1220 looks designed for a control cabinet rather than a desktop. Its orange metal enclosure, DIN-rail clip, external antennas, and rows of removable terminals make that clear before a cable is connected.

Our first chapter looks at the package, the hardware in hand, and the connection layout that gives this compact system its industrial character.
